St. Petersburg, Fla., has committed to switching its energy source to solar, the first city in the Sunshine State to commit to completely eliminating fossil fuels. The NREL-led Solar Energy Innovation Network (SEIN) has selected Pinellas Park, Florida, and Clear Sky Energy to participate in an innovative project to develop novel applications for solar energy. This innovative project is being led by the Florida Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NERL) and the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The Clear Sky project team also includes the Center for Energy Research and Development (CERD) at the University of Florida, Florida Power & Light and Florida State University.
